Typing Test FAQ

Answers about typing speed, accuracy, privacy, local results and practice routines.

WPM and CPM

What is WPM?

WPM means words per minute. This typing test uses the common convention that five typed characters count as one word.

What is a good WPM?

Many casual typists score around 40 to 60 WPM. Scores above 70 WPM are strong if accuracy stays high.

What is CPM?

CPM means characters per minute. It shows raw keyboard pace and is useful for data-entry style practice.

Why are WPM and CPM both shown?

WPM is easier to compare across typing tests. CPM gives a more direct view of character speed.

Accuracy and errors

Why does accuracy matter?

Accuracy shows how many typed characters match the passage. High speed with low accuracy is usually not useful for real work.

Do errors reduce my WPM?

Yes. Errors reduce net WPM because the score rewards correct characters, not only raw speed.

Should I backspace during a test?

For practice, finish the test calmly, then review error patterns. Constant corrections can hide rhythm problems.

Why does my score change between passages?

Different passages include different words, punctuation and rhythm. That can change both speed and accuracy.

Privacy and local results

Does the test upload my typing?

No. The test is designed to run in your browser and store recent results locally.

Do I need an account?

No. The tool works without login, signup, dashboard or profile setup.

Are recent results saved on a server?

No. Recent results are stored in your browser so you can see short-term progress without server sync.

Can I use this for an official certificate?

Use it for practice unless your school, employer or organization explicitly accepts this site as proof.

Practice

Which time mode should I use?

Use 15 or 30 seconds for warmups, 60 seconds for a standard benchmark, and 120 seconds for consistency practice.

How do I improve typing speed?

Practice regularly, keep a steady rhythm, look ahead to the next word and review mistakes after each round.

When should I use hard difficulty?

Use hard passages when medium passages feel controlled and your accuracy does not drop sharply.

Why is paste blocked?

Paste is blocked because a typing test should measure live typing, not copied input.
